Technology

The Technology Committee is a networking group comprised of a diverse set of professionals.  Committee members share best practices, network and carry out technology projects on behalf of the Agency.  Industry presentations provide an opportunity to expand an individual knowledge base as it relates to Kings County.  The committee focus spans over all aspects of the Kings RDA's goals and objectives.

In the past, the Technology Committe has worked on several initiatives, but the most prominent has been the development of the idea that created the Valley Community Fibre Network project.  The Valley Community Fibre Network is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the Kings RDA.  In the past, the Agency oversaw and managed all aspects of the capital build, including the engineering project management firm engaged to help with the make-ready process and the actual construction process.  This management was done by the Executive Director of the Agency, who served as the Project Implementation Leader on behalf of the newly formed Valley Community Fibre Network Board.

With the network now completed and in operational mode, Internetworking Atlantic Inc. (IAI) has been contracted to handle the operations, administration and maintenance of the network. The Kings RDA continues to act in a resource capacity to the Board.

The Technology Committee, this fiscal year, has been hosting a series of technology-related workshops.  The next workshop will be:

Technology Workshop:  The Red Pill...Things I Wish I Didn't Know:  A Presentation on Computer Security
February 24, 2009 from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the Old Orchard Inn, Greenwich
