Much of Kings County's allure is in the way the graciousness of the past is woven
into the tapestry of the present. The history of Kings County is long and tangible.
Five thousand years before the first European arrivals, Cape Blomidon was home to
the legendary Mi'kmaq god, Glooscap, and the Mi'kmaq people made their home here
hunting, fishing and traveling the waterways in and around Kings County.
The French Acadians settled here in the early 1600's and started construction of
an extensive dyke system. Until their deportation in 1755 by colonial troops from
New England, the Acadians lived in this area for 120 years and built prosperous
communities. The New England Planters settled lands left vacant by Acadians and
many of their descendants farm the lands still.
